Last week’s news
So I finished Liesl . . . last week. I actually wore it for the first time last Friday.
For some reason, I look a bit like I don’t know how to dress myself in these pictures. Aidan took these pictures, but he clearly loves me too much to notice when my shirt isn’t on straight. I assure you that I did not look this disheveled when I wore the sweater for the first time (these pictures were taken a few days later).
I absolutely love this sweater. It fits great, its really comfortable, and I absolutely love the yarn. And since its knit in a lace pattern at such a loose gauge, it didn’t require much yarn. All in all, I think I spent about $25 for the yarn and buttons, which I think is a pretty sweet deal.

Aidan wanted me to pose with a cocktail umbrella and then couldn't understand why I kept making ridiculous faces.
Since I’ve finished Liesl, I’ve been working pretty seriously on the Honeycomb vest. I was a bit hesitant to go back to this piece, since it had seemed rather tedious and slow-going. But now that the joy of knitting Liesl has re-energized me, I’m really enjoying working the vest’s cable pattern, and I’m about two inches from being done with the back. My (highly optimistic) goal is to finish it by the end of the month.
I didn’t have any classes Thursday or Friday this week, and since Aidan is gone at a philosophy conference in Pittsburgh until late Saturday night, I’ve been taking advantage of both the quiet and the long weekend to catch up on some work. So far, most of my energy has been dedicated to working through the massive stack of student papers I’ve had sitting around for way to long. At this point, I’m dangerously close to the half-way point at which point I will get up, do a little dance, and then chain myself to the other half until they’ve all been commented on. In order to preserve my sanity, I have taken a couple of breaks from my work. I’ve gone to the gym, done some baby-sitting, done some kitten-sitting, rented a couple of movies, slept in entirely too late. Overall, the first half of my long weekend has been pretty damn good.
Here’s hoping you enjoy your weekend too.
