For reasons that are still not entirely clear to me, I decided to start a knitting/craft blog. I set the blog-creating process in motion a couple of months ago, but I’ve since been so paralyzed by the prospect of having to write a first post that the whole thing has just kind of languished. I keep getting all these ideas about things I could write about in a first post, but then I never follow through.

For instance, I was going to write my first post after I finished these socks:

But I didn’t. (The Waving Lace socks, by the by, are the apple of my sock-knitting eye. I love the yarn/pattern combination, they fit great, and they are incredibly soft.) Then I went to a yarn sale and thought long and hard about posting pictures of what I got away with . . .

The big find: A single skein of Noro Silver Thaw at 50% off

. . . and again, I didn’t. Oh well. I suppose I’m making up for it now. I still have no idea what I’m going to do with the Hempathy, but it was 40% off and I couldn’t pass it up. I’m planning on using the Frog Tree Alpaca to make the Peek-a-Boo Cloche (Ravelry link) from Lace Style and I hoping to squeeze a pair of mittens out of the Noro (it’s a decent-sized skein at 240 yds, so I think I should be able to pull it off).

Most recently, I finished another pair of plain, stockinette socks. (I had other plans for these socks, but the yarn staunchly refused to bend to my will. I’m a bit frightened of this yarn and the power it has over me.)

I used a picot edge for these socks instead of my normal 1×1 rib, just to add a bit of spice. These socks were made with Claudia Handpainted in Plumilicious. I still can’t figure out why I bought this yarn since it was more than I usually allow myself to spend and has a decent amount of brown in it. (Brown=yuck. I think it was flashes of hot pink that seduced me.) I also managed to fuck up the instep decreases on the first sock, most likely because I was working them while I was in the waiting room during Aidan’s surgical consult and was thus a bit nervous and very much distracted by the stupidly loud receptionists at the dermatology office. I didn’t bother trying to fix the problem, so the instep on the first sock is significantly longer than the instep on the second. But who really gives a shit?

So now I have recounted all the things I thought about blogging but didn’t follow through on. And in the process, I have created precisely the kind of boring post I was afraid of. But I’m going to swallow my pride and post this anyway, hoping like hell that as I keep doing this, I avoid creating the kind of lame-ass blog I hate to read.

I’ll leave you with my latest project:

What is with me and the purple? Have you noticed the trend?

Yep. More socks. I am the epitome of exciting.
